Finding a good last name from Andre's baby

Andre's family last name is originally 吳 [wu2], a patrilineal last name. Since he lives in Jakarta, it's a common practice to camouflage Chinese name into English names, or Javanese names. I read in his blog that he needs suggestion for a name. I therefore do a little research on this.

The same character also appear in Japanese, the sound for 呉　is as following; konyomi is くれ [kure]、and onyomi is either ご[go]　or げ[ge].

If we browse we breakdown character 吳, in Chinese it's called 口天吳 [kou tian wu] to clarify speech and differes from other wu characters.

口 [kou3] : mouth or opening

天 [tian1] : Sky, God

Here's the names I can suggest.

Stick to the original Hokkian sound. Choose Go as a last name.

Convert the root 口天 into latinate pairs and come up with names like below.

Mouth in latin is Os or Oris, God in latin is Deus, Sky is Caelum or Divum.

We can coin a name from two of these words resulting in:

Osdeus, Orideus, Deusoris, Deusos, Caelos, Osdiva, Oridiva, Divoris, Caeloris. Now you got a lot of latinate name to choose from.

In Japanese, くし[kuchi] and こう[kou], is how you pronounced 口, and てん[ten] and あめ[ame] or あま[ama] to pronounce 天. From this end, you can have a word like.

こうてん　[kouten], くちてん[kuchiten], くちあま[kuchiama], こうあま[kouama]

In ceteris paribus, Korean renders a different sound for 口天吳, they are pronounced as 구천오[goocheon-o]. It doesn't even tickle my ears to have goocheon for a name, but I'm just making suggestions.

I personally think, Orideo or Deoris may be a good Choice, but the final choice belongs to Andre.

Getting my income tax paid

This morning I woke up really early at 7:30 and headed up for Tax Office in 中華路 [zhong hua lu] near 西門町[ximen ding]. I needed to file my income tax for last year before leaving Taiwan not wanting to be held at the airport for evading tax. I took the MRT and went out exit 6 in ximen station. I went out and walk the pedestrian until while asking around where the hell is 國稅局[guo shui ju], I finally found the Tax office and headed in, it was early, so nobody was lining up. I went straight to the lady and asked how I get this stuff done. She handed me a form and asked me to fill them. I couldn't imagine doing this myself 4 years ago given the intricacy of Chinese language and my bad command of it. But this morning, I was confident enough to fill out the forms and handed it over to the lady. She checked and ticked here and there adding her own notes, and gave it back to me and direct me to counter 4.

I went to counter 4, another lady process the payment slip and hand it to me for signature and addie. I fillled out and went next to the cashier stopping by at the ATM to draw some cash. I paid it to this bespectacled 5oish guy who tap over and over on his old greenish calculator to get the numbers right. After I paid, he gave me a copy and I handed it back to Counter 4 where I get the real receipt. It was stamped "Keep this for 7 years". I rushed out from the tax office and quickly found a bus to take me back to my office.
